Alabama Code 32-5A-8 sets a general first-offense fine ceiling of $100 before court costs and permits up to 10 days of imprisonment. A second offense within one year has a $200 ceiling; a third or later offense within that year has a $500 ceiling. Special offenses have different penalties.
