Ordinary Michigan traffic civil fines generally cannot exceed $100, before costs and the $40 justice-system assessment. Limited-access freeways posted at least 55 mph have statutory minimum fines of $10, $20, $30, $40 or $50 by speed band. Active school/work and listed emergency zones double the fine; they do not double every fee. The courts set published local payment schedules within the governing rules.

The Walker schedule lists ordinary-road speeding points of 1, 2, 3 or 4 by band. It separately lists lower limited-access-freeway points in some bands, which this ordinary-road model does not apply. MCL 257.629c overrides ordinary points on qualifying limited-access freeways posted 55 mph or more: 1–5 over 0, 6–10 over 1, 11–15 over 2, 16–25 over 3, and 26 or more over 4. The special table excludes vehicle combinations governed by 257.627(5)–(7); this estimator restricts it to the noncommercial vehicle selection, and trailers, school buses or other specially limited vehicles require court confirmation. Walker’s 21–25-over freeway row lists 4 points, conflicting with the controlling statute’s 3; the estimator follows the statute.
Accumulating 12 points in 2 years can lead to a driver assessment reexamination. Assessment can result in restrictions, suspension or revocation; it is not an automatic suspension for every driver.
Most Michigan points remain for two years from the conviction date. Removing points does not erase the conviction or establish an insurer's rating period.
